The Reviews are in from the Multi-State Reading of the Book Generations Apart, and here on the Results:

The Book Club in Pennsylvania condensed their thoughts in the following sentence: An interesting take on past and present solutions to difficult situations…

The next group had four different age ranges – 28, 58, 65 and 83. The 30 – 50 year old age group had a problem relating to the need to keep the secret. The 60 – 80 year olds were aware of the absence of honest conversations and support for that type of situation in that time period. Another felt the book might have been better as a short story/novella in a women’s magazine. Yet another group thought the development of the sisters was good showing their different personalities.

The conclusion stated that through all of life’s ups and downs, in over three decades, this family remains together and stronger than ever…

Many thanks to all the women, young and old, for their honest opinions, and for undertaking this online review whether you enjoyed the book, or not. A book review can be provoking and cannot be compared to just sitting down to experience enjoyment of the book without having to discern and pick apart every morsel. Knowing that, you all were very thorough and honest, and I thank you for that.

Coming Soon:

Two separate groups knew about the New Jersey teachers online review and will attempt to do the same with the book Generations Apart.

One is a group of women in a Pennsylvania book club.  They will approach the book more closely in age during the time period the book takes place.  It will be good to evaluate their approach to the story.

The second group represents four different generations.  They come from different states like North Carolina, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Massachusetts.  It will be interesting to see if the younger generations can comprehend what the main character had to endure.

Online Book Review for February & March 2019 | Group: A retired teachers’ book club in New Jersey

February 1, 2019 to March 31, 2019

The Retired Teachers’ Book Club found Generations Apart interesting. They were impressed by Lucille’s depiction of the characters. They felt the quick read and short chapters acted like snapshots that made up the story. They wanted to know why Ben did what he did for years – the back story on him confirming that if victims don’t report, the perpetrator won’t get caught. However, the group knew that reporting was unlikely to occur in a prior generation.

They felt the book encompassed a good depiction of the change in society over the past fifty plus years – for good or bad. The good being women speak out today-hence the #MeToo movement. The bad can be Internet bullying, lying, self-promotion which are all rampant. The book portrays themes of intergenerational change in attitudes towards sexual assault as well as the importance of family. These are all themes relevant today. The group had names for the characters with Ben being a wolf, Susan’s mother and some siblings were like sheep and Susan, the main character was the sheepdog.

Lucille Thanks the Retired Teachers

Thank you retired teachers for spending most of your life educating children. You are to be commended for undertaking that task. Also, thanks for reviewing my book with such an honest interpretation.
