Dining Out

By Lucille M. Griswold

The following poem depicts a true story. I was so amused, I came home and wrote a poem about the incident that follows. The reader should realize, I am a little person with a BIG appetite. My husband is tall, and he too has a big appetite. Whether the waiter saw the two of us and figured I would not want a big slice (as this never happened before), I just don’t know. Anyway, I left hungry, as I did not want to order more since we had other things to do. However, a little humor in a relationship goes a long way, so enjoy.

Eating after church
Is something we adore
Choosing where to go
Has never been a chore

Italian food for us
Can please our appetite
We never can go wrong
As we wait for our first bite

Giuseppe’s suits us fine
They serve pizza by the slice
We can even order drinks
That are filled with lots of ice

Antipasto salad makes us
Feel we’re choosing right
But watch out fellow countrymen
We nearly had a fight

Why, you ask —– what
Nearly made you snap
They cut the pizza into sizes
That might have caused a scrap

One was big and one was small
I knew which one to take
I’m little, he is tall, but they
Made a big mistake

One can count on little me
To always eat a lot
But the last thing that I wanted
Was not to stir the pot

Then I figured he was paying
He’s always good that way
So, I reluctantly took the little slice
And that really made his day
